From migrating to the cloud to visualizing car theft risks.

The Vehicle Crime Insurance Office (vBV) is an initiative by Dutch non-life insurers that focuses on combating crime related to vehicles, vessels, work equipment and transport. At the beginning of 2023, the vBV opted for a strategic innovation by not only transferring their systems to the cloud, but also developing a detailed dashboard. This task was entrusted to D-Data, which successfully moved the existing infrastructure to the Azure cloud. This migration promoted scalability and laid the basis for a future-proof structure that supports the vBV's growth ambitions.
In addition, D-Data developed an interactive Power BI dashboard that can be used both for the general public via the website www.zichtopvoertuigcriminaliteit.nl if affiliated insurers can access it via vBV's application, vBVapp. This dashboard provides insight into theft and recovery statistics, with advanced filtering options to highlight the most notable issues. An alerting system ensures that these prominent thefts receive extra attention.
After the successful transition to the cloud and the implementation of the dashboard, the vBV strives to further deepen insights and risk analyses. In cooperation with vehicle data provider AutoTelex, a deep analysis could be made into the stolen types of vehicles. Through machine learning, D-Data subsequently developed a risk model that can accurately predict the theft risk of vehicles. Vehicle security is evaluated with the risk model developed by D-Data & vBV in cooperation with the Center for Crime Security and Safety (CCV). This enables insurers to impose stricter alarm requirements on higher-risk vehicles. At the same time, the theft risk calculation will be available to individuals via www.zichtopvoertuigcriminaliteit.nl for each license plate.
